The US government armed Osama Bin Laden; it armed Saddam Hussain with chemical weapons to be used against
Iran in 1980; it armed the very groups that later became ISIS. Yet we are sold an entirely different yarn by the US
government and its lap dog MSM. Today I have invited James Corbett on the show to very clearly, and once and for
all, demonstrate who is actually responsible for the creation and the rise of ISIS.
The Islamic militant group ISIS, formerly known as Al-Qaeda
in Iraq, and recently rebranded as the so called Islamic State, is the stuff of nightmares. They are ruthless,
fanatical, killers, on a mission, and that mission is to wipe out anyone and everyone, from any religion or belief
system and to impose Shari’ah law. The mass executions, beheadings and even crucifixions that they are committing
as they work towards this goal are flaunted like badges of pride, video taped and uploaded for the whole world to
see. This is the new face of evil.

These jihadist militants from Iraq were part of what national security analysts commonly referred

ISIS
“The name ISIS is one that every American knows,”
Swann said “The biggest threat to our national security since Al-Qaeda, right? They are a brutal, savage group
known for public beheadings and mass executions. They are the face of the new war on terror.”
Swann pointed out that while the U.S. Military is currently conducting airstrikes in Syria, in a supposed
attempt to take out ISIS targets, the White House and U.S. military leaders are discussing possible boots on the
ground in Iraq. These talks are arising just three years after President Obama declared that the war in Iraq was
over.
Former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta told
USA Today that in order to defeat ISIS, he believes the United States is looking at “a
30-year-war.”
As the U.S. goes to war in an attempt to defeat yet another terrorist group, the biggest question is: Who
exactly is ISIS and where did they come from?
Angela Keaton, the founder of Antiwar.com, said
that ISIS is “entirely a creation of the United States’ behavior in Iraq.”
“That’s how we got to where we are, because of war, because of occupation, because of torture,” Keaton
said. “The United States government completely destabilized and wrecked Iraq. They caused it to fail miserably
and that is entirely the fault of the United States government. There is no one else to blame.”
Swann explained that when the U.S. first invaded Iraq, it “blew the country apart.” By destroying the
existing government, toppling Saddam Hussein, and destroying the infrastructure, the U.S. “left behind a power
vacuum” that would never have existed under Hussein.
Daniel McAdams, the executive director of the Ron Paul Institute, said that the impact caused by the actions of the United States is a
“historical fact that media just won’t discuss.”
“This has to do with U.S. action in the region, which destroyed the infrastructure, which destroyed Iraq
society, which destroyed the Iraqi government,” McAdams said. He explained that while there were a lot of
people who weren’t “as happy as larks” while living under Saddam Hussein, they also weren’t at odds with
Hussein in the same way they were with the government established by the U.S.
The militant group ISIS was formed as a small insurgent group in Iraq in 2006. Swann noted that while they tried
to create problems for the U.S. military, they had no money and no real ability to recruit.
“It wasn’t until 2009 that ISIS shifted its focus from Iraq, where it was largely unsuccessful in developing
a foothold, and focused on the civil war in Syria,” Swann said.
While in Syria, ISIS still struggled to gain a foothold. Swann attributed this to the fact that two larger
groups fighting against President Bashar al-Assad were overpowering them: al-Nusra Front – or al-Qaeda – and the
Free Syrian Army.
“Then, came a pivotal moment that most Americans aren’t even aware of,” Swann said. “In June
2013, a Northern General for the Free Syrian Army spoke out on Al Jazeera Qatar and stated that if international
forces did not send weapons, the rebels attempting to overthrow Syrian president Bashar al-Assad would lose their
war within a month.”
Swann noted that just months before this occurred he had personally confronted President Obama on the issue of
why the U.S. was covertly funding Syrian rebels. Although Obama acted as if he was proceeding with caution,
politicians such as Senator John McCain demanded action.
“Within a matter of weeks of the Syrian general making his plea for international help, the U.S., the
Saudis, Jordan, Qatar, Turkey and Israel began providing weapons, training and money to so-called rebel groups like
the Free Syrian Army,” Swann said.
In September 2013, American media outlets began reporting that weapons were being given to Syrian rebels.
CNN reported that while the weapons are not “American-made,” they were
“funded and organized by the CIA.”
However, Swann said that things began to fall apart when less than one year after the U.S. supplied Syrian
“freedom fighters” with weapons, those weapons ended up in the hands of ISIS fighters.
Those ISIS fighters came from the group McCain insisted would help the U.S. overthrow Assad: the Free Syrian
Army. Swann explained that the army was not only sending the Islamic State weapons, it was also sending them
fighters.
“The Free Syrian Army has lost most of the land that it ever claimed and it’s entirely incompetent,”
Keaton said. “The only thing that it has been good at is currying favor with western leaders.”
Swann said that it wasn’t until June 2014 that ISIS went from being a “no-name group in Syria” to a
group that was “heavily armed and trained by U.S. and Coalition Special Forces.” This revitalized group
made a dramatic entrance by crossing back over the Syrian border into Iraq and capturing Mosul and much of the
northern part of the country.
“One of the most important facts that mainstream media ignores time and time again is that ISIS was able to
grow so fast, because of all the U.S. military equipment they were able to seize – equipment that our military left
in Iraq,” said Swann. “Truckloads of Humvees, tanks and weaponry that instead of taking or
destroying, the U.S. government simply decided to leave behind.”
However, even when the U.S. government became aware that ISIS fighters were capturing U.S. equipment, it did
nothing. Swann attributed the lack of action to the fact that ISIS fighters were taking the equipment back into
Syria to continue fighting Assad, which was what the U.S. government wanted.
“How is it that the United States, with all of its intelligence capabilities, didn’t know this threat was
coming?” McAdams said. “How many billions did we spend, maybe a hundred billion on total intelligence
community budge over the year? How did they have no idea?”
Swann said that the answer is simple: “The U.S. did know who ISIS was, but the so-called Islamic State was
doing what the Obama administration wanted.”
The ISIS fighters continued to do what the Obama administration wanted, and in late summer 2014, they were
labeled what Swann called, “the new boogeyman in the war on terror.”
“Over the past few months, the U.S. government, who acted like they had never even heard of ISIS, suddenly,
with the help of media has turned the Islamic State into the new focus of the war on terror,” Swann said.
“Now, as ISIS has continued its rise, recruitment is exploding and the group is becoming stunningly
wealthy.”
Swann noted that in response to the “ISIS threat,” the U.S. began “conducting airstrikes on Syrian
oil fields, instead of going after those buying the oil.”
McAdams pointed out that ISIS makes $2 million a day off of selling oil, and the United States’ response, of
“undercutting the competition” by blowing up oil fields makes no sense. He questioned why the U.S., which
is known for sanctioning “anything that moves,” when it’s angry, is not placing sanctions on the banks or
the oil companies that are involved.
Swann added that in addition to those questions, Americans should also be asking, “Why is the U.S. sending
$500 million to the Free Syrian Army to fight ISIS when the FSA is one of the biggest suppliers of fighters and
weapons to ISIS?” and “Why are we sending new and more powerful weapons to the FSA like anti-aircraft
missiles – weapons that we know will be in the hands of ISIS?”
Swann maintained that while the mainstream media will say that ISIS is the “creation of American
inaction,” the reality is that they are the “product of direct action.”
This direct action started with “the action of creating a power vacuum in Iraq” and manifested into the
“arming violent Jihadists, hoping they would overthrow a leader in a neighboring Middle Eastern
country.”
McAdams described the U.S. government as a victim of its own insane policies, due to the fact that it is
“very good at blowing things up, but really bad at putting them back together.”
In determining whether or not McAdams’ statement was true, Swann listed three facts:
Fact #1: “Our government armed Osama bin Laden and the Mujahideen in Afghanistan and created
al-Qaeda.”
Fact #2: “Our government put Saddam Hussein into power – we helped supply and create chemical weapons for
him to use against Iran in 1980 – and then we overthrew him in 2003.”
Fact #3: “Our government trained rebel fighters in Syria who would become the group today known as ISIS. We
have watched them commit every violent atrocity you can imagine to people living in Iraq and Syria, and now we want
American taxpayers to fund a 30-year war with them.”
Swann came to the conclusion that it isn’t the U.S. government being held hostage by crazy policies; rather it
is the American people.
“It is time that we reject the destruction of people groups around the world for the sake of foreign policy
that makes so-called defense contractors rich, and perpetuates violence, death, and the destruction of entire
people groups,” Swann said. “This is the central issue of our time – because humanity is greater than
politics.”

basically divide the areas of control. France had its eyes on Manbij and turkey has its eyes on Manbij, cause they
have this deal they want to make with the US that only everything east of the Euphrates belongs to their Kurdish
proxies, and everything west of the Euphrates in the north of Syria is supposed to belong to Turkey. And France is
kind of trying to carve out its own chunk. Of course at the end of the day Syria is alive. The military is strong.
And the Syrian president has said that the entirety of Syria is going to be liberated.
So the idea that any of those forces are going to stay and takeover a piece of Syria is a pipe
dream. And it will lead to death and WAR and destruction. Already two US troops have been killed…this is sadly you
know only the beginning and for what reason?…For Syrian oil? The US has plenty of oil. It’s not about wanting more
oil. It’s about making sure that Syria can’t control and use its oil to rebuild because that’s going to threaten
Israel. At the end of the day, this is really just about Israel, and protecting Israeli interests."

Hersh says that the raid which killed Osama Bin Laden in 2011 is “one big lie” and that “not one word” of the Obama
administration’s narrative on what happened is true.
In a wide-ranging interview published today by
the Guardian, Hersh savages the US media for failing to challenge the White House on a whole host of issues,
from NSA spying, to drone attacks, to aggression against Syria.
On the subject of the Navy Seal raid that supposedly resulted
in the death of the Al-Qaeda terror leader, Hersh remarked, “Nothing’s been done about that story, it’s one
big lie, not one word of it is true.”
Hersh added that the Obama administration habitually lies but they continue to do so
because the press allows them to get away with it.
“It’s pathetic, they are more than obsequious, they are afraid to pick on this guy [Obama],” Hersh
told the Guardian.
The raid that supposedly led to Bin Laden’s death has been shrouded in mystery for over two years.
Speculation that the Obama administration may have embellished or outright
lied about the true account of what happened has persisted, mainly because the White House has refused to
publicly release images of Bin Laden’s body.
Although the White House said the corpse was immediately “buried at sea” in line with Islamic
tradition, it quickly emerged that this was not standard practice.
Numerous
analysts have claimed that Bin Laden had in fact been dead for years and that the raid on his alleged
compound in Pakistan was little more than a stunt.
Other questions also persist, such as why the narrative and timeline of the raid has
changed multiple times, why the White House initially claimed that “situation room” photos showed Obama
watching the raid live when in fact there was a
blackout on the live feed, and why neighbors in the
immediate area surrounding the compound said with absolute certainty that they had never seen Bin Laden
and that they knew of no evidence whatsoever to suggest he lived there.
During the rest of the Guardian interview, which is well worth reading in its entirety, Hersh
lambastes the corporate press and particularly the New York Times, which he says spends “so much more time carrying
water for Obama than I ever thought they would.”

cells have received from the US and/or CIA) of eradicating the Al Qaeda scourge from the face of the earth, we
learn today that al Qaeda appears to control more territory in the Arab world than it has done at any
time in its history. According to a CNN report "from around Aleppo in western Syria to small areas of
Falluja in central Iraq, al Qaeda now controls territory that stretches more than 400 miles across the
heart of the Middle East, according to English and Arab language news accounts as well as accounts on jihadist
websites."
The following recent map from Jane's shows just how extensive Al Qaeda's influence has grown in
recent years.
And nowhere is the surge of Al Qaeda more
visible than in recent events in Iraq. From CNN:
The focus of al Qaeda's leaders has always been regime change in the Arab world in order to install
Taliban-style regimes. Al Qaeda's leader Ayman al-Zawahiri acknowledged as much in his 2001 autobiography,
"Knights Under the Banner of the Prophet," when he explained that the most important strategic goal of al Qaeda
was to seize control of a state, or part of a state, somewhere in the Muslim world, explaining that, "without
achieving this goal our actions will mean nothing."
Now al-Zawahiri is closer to his goal than he has ever been. On Friday al-Qaeda's affiliate in Iraq
seized control of parts of the city of Falluja and parts of the city of Ramadi, both of which are located in
Iraq's restive Anbar Province.
Anbar is home to predominantly Sunni Muslims, who feel that that the Shiite-dominated Iraqi
government of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki treats the Sunnis as second-class citizens.
Sectarian tensions in Anbar recently burst into several all-out revolts against the government, and
the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), as the al-Qaeda affiliate there is known, quickly seized the
opportunity to notch some battlefield victories.
Government forces increased their presence around Falluja in response and on Tuesday tribal leaders
issued a statement urging people who had fled the city or stopped reporting to work to return.
America's escapade in Syria - where it was merely a puppet for Qatari nat gas oligarchs - has also
backfired.
ISIS is also operating in Syria, where it has established a presence in many areas of the Aleppo
and Idlib Governorates in the northwest. In August, ISIS launched a propaganda series on video highlighting
their activities in Syria, which includes interviews with fighters; the "graduation" of a group of mujahedin
"cubs" (aged about 7 to 10 years old) from training, and sermons at local mosques preaching al Qaeda's
interpretation of Islam.
The al-Nusra front has claimed to control parts of at least a dozen Syrian towns. Those include
sections of the ancient city of the Aleppo in the northwest, where fighters have been filmed running a community
fair and preaching al Qaeda's values to crowds of children. The group has also released videos on
jihadist websites claiming that it is providing services to the people of several towns in the governorate of
Idlib, which borders the Aleppo Governorate to the west. Al Nusra claims that it is a quasi-government and
service-provider in the towns of Binnish, Taum, and Saraqib.
Al-Nusra fighters allied to al Qaeda function like a government in areas they control in Syria. The
group provides daily deliveries of bread, free running water and electricity, a health clinic, and a strict
justice system based on Sharia law in the eastern Syrian city of Ash Shaddadi, where it also took control of the
city's wheat silos and oil wells. In September a CNN reporting team concluded, "Al Qaeda has swept to power with
the aim of imposing a strict Islamist ideology on Syrians across large swathes of Syria's rebel-held north."
In sum, al Qaeda affiliates now control much of northern and northwestern Syria as well as some
parts of eastern Syria, as well as much of Anbar province, which is around a third of Iraqi territory.
It wouldn't be a US diplomatic debacle without at least one soundbite from John Kerry. So here it
is:
Secretary of State John Kerry said on Sunday that the United States will "do everything that is
possible to help" the Iraqi government control al Qaeda's expansion in Anbar, but stressed that no American
troops would be sent back to the Middle Eastern nation . Last month, the United States quietly sent Hellfire
missiles and surveillance drones to the Iraqi government to support their fight against increasing al
Qaeda-related violence.
The question of how quickly the US "gift" was intercepted by Al Qaeda is rhetorical. The other
rhetorical question is how long until the now much better armed (with US weapons) jihadists will turn those same
weapons on the liberating Western powers. The US for now seems safe. Europe is a different matter.
For the United States the widening reach of al Qaeda in the Middle East doesn't necessarily
translate into an immediate threat at home. So far only a handful of Americans have fought in the Syrian
conflict alongside al Qaeda's affiliates there so concerns about some kind of "blowback" from the Syrian war in
the U.S. are, at this point, unfounded.
European countries are rightly concerned, however. Many European countries have seen their
citizens drawn to the Syrian war; more than a hundred from Britain and many dozens from countries like Norway,
Denmark and the Netherlands, according to multiple European officials we have spoken to. These
countries are concerned that the returning veterans of the Syrian conflict might launch terrorist
attacks in Europe.
In October for instance, British authorities arrested militants who were allegedly planning a
terrorist attack. Two British officials who work on counterterrorism issues told us that that the militants had
recently traveled to Syria.
Finally, none of this should come as a surprise to anyone. Ron Paul, for one, has long predicted
precisely this chain of events. In this context his latest commentary, posted
here over the weekend, bears repeating.
Iraq: The ‘Liberation’ Neocons Would Rather Forget
Remember Fallujah? Shortly after the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the US military fired on unarmed
protestors, killing as many as 20 and wounding dozens. In retaliation, local Iraqis attacked a convoy of US
military contractors, killing four. The US then launched a full attack on Fallujah to regain control, which left
perhaps 700 Iraqis dead and the city virtually destroyed.
According to press reports last weekend, Fallujah is now under the control of al-Qaeda affiliates.
The Anbar province, where Fallujah is located, is under siege by al-Qaeda. During the 2007 “surge,” more than
1,000 US troops were killed “pacifying” the Anbar province. Although al-Qaeda was not in Iraq before the US
invasion, it is now conducting its own surge in Anbar.
For Iraq, the US “liberation” is proving far worse than the authoritarianism of Saddam Hussein, and it keeps
getting worse. Last year was Iraq’s deadliest in five years. In 2013, fighting and bomb blasts claimed the lives of
7,818 civilians and 1,050 members of the security forces. In December alone nearly a thousand people were
killed.
I remember sitting through many hearings in the House International Relations Committee praising the “surge,” which
we were told secured a US victory in Iraq. They also praised the so-called “Awakening,” which was really an
agreement by insurgents to stop fighting in exchange for US dollars. I always wondered what would happen when those
dollars stopped coming.
Where are the surge and awakening cheerleaders now?
One of them, Richard Perle, was interviewed last year on NPR and asked whether the Iraq invasion that he pushed was
worth it. He replied:
I've got to say I think that is not a reasonable question. What we did at the time was done in the
belief that it was necessary to protect this nation. You can't a decade later go back and say, well, we
shouldn't have done that.
Many of us were saying all along that we shouldn’t have done that – before we did it. Unfortunately
the Bush Administration took the advice of the neocons pushing for war and promising it would be a “cakewalk.”
We continue to see the results of that terrible mistake, and it is only getting worse.
Last month the US shipped nearly a hundred air-to-ground missiles to the Iraqi air force to help combat the surging
al-Qaeda. Ironically, the same al-Qaeda groups the US is helping the Iraqis combat are benefiting from the US
covert and overt war to overthrow Assad next door in Syria. Why can’t the US government learn from its
mistakes?
The neocons may be on the run from their earlier positions on Iraq, but that does not mean they have given up. They
were the ones pushing for an attack on Syria this summer. Thankfully they were not successful. They are now making
every effort to derail President Obama’s efforts to negotiate with the Iranians. Just last week William Kristol
urged Israel to attack Iran with the hope we would then get involved. Neoconservative Senators from both parties
recently introduced the Nuclear Weapon Free Iran Act of 2013, which would also bring us back on war-footing with
Iran.
Next time the neocons tell us we must attack, just think “Iraq.”

Earlier this year, the United
States and the Gulf monarchies initiated a propaganda effort designed to sanitize the image of the mercenaries
fighting to topple the Syrian government. According to The Telegraph, mercenary groups “best equipped to take on the extremists” were given
millions of dollars to go up against al-Qaeda’s Islamic State of Iraq and al-Shams (ISIS), which was said to
have “hijacked” the foreign effort to overthrow the regime of Bashar al-Assad.

The British newspaper reported
Jamal Maarouf, with the help of the CIA and Saudi and Qatari intelligence, created the Syrian Revolutionary Front
(SRF), a collection of “moderate” fighters who reportedly launched attacks against the ISIS and its jihadist
allies.
As it turns out, the war against ISIS is not what the establishment media in the West
make it out to be. On Wednesday, Maarouf told The Independent the fight against al-Qaeda was “not our problem” and admitted the
mercenaries he leads with U.S., Saudi and Qatari help conduct joint operations with Jabhat al-Nusra, seen as the
de facto al-Qaeda branch in Syria. Maarouf told the newspaper he does not have a problem working with al-Qaeda
so long as the objective is the ouster of the al-Assad government.
In fact, according to Maarouf, his benefactors told him to provide al-Nusra with
weapons despite the aforementioned propaganda campaign designed to give the impression “moderates” are fighting the
good fight against al-Qaeda in Syria. He said if “the people who support us [U.S., Saudis, Qataris] tell us to send
weapons to another group, we send them. They asked us a month ago to send weapons to Yabroud so we sent a lot of
weapons there. When they asked us to do this, we do it.”
According to Barak Barfi, a research fellow for the globalist funded New America Foundation, al-Nusra, the al-Qaeda-linked group known for
summarily executing Syrian soldiers and other atrocities (including beheading
Christians; see the video above), receives weapons indirectly from SRF.
Maarouf’s revelation, however, is not news. In December, The Washington Post and other establishment media outlets reported the United States
and its partners are involved in a “cold-war style of warfare” which includes the use of “proxies to punish
Assad.” The mention of the term Cold War alludes to covert intelligence operations, the hallmark of decades of
undeclared warfare against the Soviet Union.
In an effort to minimize the fact the United States is colluding with an enemy
aligned with a terrorist organization allegedly responsible for attacking the United States, the Post reported:
The United States government knowingly contributed to the territorial gains of
radical Islamists allied to our gravest enemy in an effort to hijack the Syrian Revolution and install Sharia
Law in a very rich and very powerful country. In an effort to thwart the fear of the public that the U.S. would
be supporting radical Jihadists, the secretary of state made a statement that he was certain that only 25
percent of the rebels were Jihadists. There are roughly a hundred eighty thousand Syrian Rebels, and as of now
an estimated one hundred thousand of those rebels fall under the command of the Islamic Front.
In other words, in an effort to subvert a sovereign nation and decide who will rule
over it (and who will cooperate with the financial elite), the United States is only partially collaborating with
declared enemies. This is, we are assured, better than fully cooperating with them.
Once again, this is sheer and transparent propaganda designed to minimize the obvious
fact the United States does not differentiate between enemies and allies (who often, as Taliban did, become
tomorrow’s sworn enemies if so declared by geopolitical imperatives decided upon by the global elite).
“For half a century the United States and many of its allies saw what I call the
‘Islamic right’ as convenient partners in the Cold War,” writes Robert Dreyfuss in his book, Devil’s Game: How the United States Helped Unleash Fundamentalist Islam. The Afghan
Mujahideen, enthusiastically supported by the CIA in its successful covert war against the Soviet Union in
Afghanistan, would ultimately produce both al-Qaeda and the Taliban, a fact admitted by Jimmy Carter’s National
Security Adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski, CIA director and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Naturally, this fact – the United States not only creates and supports the likes of
al-Qaeda and al-Nusra, to name but two, but itself constitutes the largest, most organized, well-funded and
dangerous terrorist organization in the world – is never mentioned by the establishment media, even when U.S.
proxies, headed up by war profiteers such as Jamal Maarouf, admit they are in league with brutal sadists who
behead innocents, execute prisoners of war, and desecrate Christian churches.

American-born Al-Qaeda terror leader
Anwar Al-Awlaki, who met with Pentagon officials months after 9/11, is by no means the only patsy handler
the Central Intelligence Agency has used over the years to oversee false flag attacks in America and around
the world. In fact, just about every major terror attack has been run by an operative with direct ties to
the US military-industrial complex.
As
we reported this morning, Awlaki, the man who helped plot the aborted Christmas Day bombing, the Fort
Hood shooting, the Times Square bombing attempt, and who also preached to the alleged September 11
hijackers, dined at the Pentagon just months after 9/11 documents obtained by Fox News show.
Awlaki is just the latest in a long list of Al-Qaeda double agents whose activity proves that
the terror organization is little more than a front for the Pentagon and the US war machine. Let’s take a
look at just a handful of dozens of examples of terror masterminds working for intelligence agencies.
Emad A. Salem
The feds used FBI informant Emad A. Salem to run the first World Trade Center bombing back in
1993.
Before the attack, the FBI planted informant Salem within a radical Arab group in New York led
by Ramzi Yousef. Salem was ordered to encourage the group to carry out a bombing targeting the World Trade
Center’s twin towers. Under the illusion that the project was a sting operation, Salem asked the FBI for
harmless dummy explosives which he would use to assemble the bomb and then pass on to the group. At this
point the FBI cut Salem out of the loop and provided the group with real explosives, leading to the attack
on February 26 that killed six and injured over a thousand people. The FBI’s failure to prevent the bombing
was reported on by the New York
Times in October 1993, as well as CBS News in the clip below.

In July 2005, terror expert John Loftus told Fox News, “…back in the late 1990s, the leaders
all worked for British intelligence in Kosovo. Believe it or not, British intelligence actually hired some
Al-Qaeda guys to help defend the Muslim rights in Albania and in Kosovo. That’s when Al-Muhajiroun got
started.”

David Headley
The mastermind behind the Mumbai massacre was “an American secret agent who went rogue,”
reported the London Times,
referring to Washington-born David Headley, who was caught smuggling heroin but then given a job by the Drug
Enforcement Agency and later went on to work for the CIA.
“The Indian media has raised the possibility that Mr Headley was being protected by his
American handlers — a theory that experts say is credible,” reported the Times.
Headley was allowed to fly in and out of India as he scouted targets for the attack despite
being “firmly on the radar of the US intelligence agencies.”
Prince Bandar “Bush”
Saudi Arabia’s former US envoy Prince Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, known as “Bandar Bush”
for his close relationship with former President George W. Bush and his father, is another terror mastermind
on the payroll of the US military-industrial complex. Bandar worked closely with CIA Director George Tenet,
when he was Saudi Ambassador in Washington.
Bandar disappeared two years ago after it emerged that he had become the
de facto leader of “Al-Qaeda in Iraq,” having been responsible for arming terrorist organizations in
the Middle East. The man who George W. Bush reportedly consulted before the 2003 invasion of Iraq has trained,
funded and equipped terrorists to kill US troops, providing the US government with the perfect justification to
remain as an occupying force in the country.

Britain with “another 7/7″ and the loss of “British lives on British streets” if corruption
investigations into Saudi arms deals were allowed to proceed. Prime Minister Tony Blair complied and quashed
the inquiry.

After this, Bin Laden led Al-Qaeda to Bosnia shortly after the outbreak of war in 1992 to fight
against Bosnian Serbs who were subsequently the target of NATO air strikes.
Shortly before the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999, Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda moved into
Kosovo, Serbia’s southern province, to aid the Kosovo Liberation Army, the Albanian terrorist faction that
was being supported by the U.S. and NATO in its terror campaign against Serbs in the region.
“The United States, which had originally trained the Afghan Arabs during the war in
Afghanistan, supported them in Bosnia and then in Kosovo,” reported the National Post.
With the help of Bin Laden’s terror network, backed up by the U.S. and NATO, no less than 90%
of Serbians were “ethnically cleansed” and forced to leave the region, while the international media played
its role dutifully in portraying the Albanians as the “victims” of Serbian aggression.
Barely weeks before 9/11, former
members of Al-Qaeda who had subsequently joined the Kosovo Liberation Army were airlifted out of
Macedonia by U.S. paratroopers.
While Homeland Security chief Janet Napolitano, FBI head Mueller and others ceaselessly
fearmonger about domestic terrorists being an imminent threat, the federal government has a
reliable menagerie of pocket Muslim radicals on which to call upon to radicalize followers into launching an
attack on ‘the great satan’ whenever the political climate deems it necessary.
The fact that just about every major terror attack or aborted terror scare for decades has been
run by people with direct ties to US intelligence renders the entire war on terror a complete fraud, and
once again underscores the truth that the real terrorists reside a lot closer to home than caves in Central
Asia or the Middle East.

For the average person who has lived through
the phony ‘War on Terror’, a post-9/11 age of fear that has swirled around the persona of bin Laden, it may be
quite confusing to now read headlines likeLibya: the West and al-Qaeda on the same
side. Indeed, the rebel forces trying to topple
Gaddafi admittedly include
more than 1,000 al Qaeda soldiers while enjoying total backing–
weapons, planes, funding and forces– from the U.S., Britain, NATO and other allies. The CIA and British SAS forces
that arenow “officially” entering Libya as
ground support were
covertly operating at least a month ago.

However, the Pentagon-run al Qaeda hoax has deeper history
than can be covered in just a few minutes of airtime.
CRIMESTOP: CREATE THE ENEMY, FOOL THE PUBLIC
As we cover some of the
highlights of al Qaeda’s duplicitous history, consider these conflicting statements from two U.S. Presidents about
the Taliban / al Qaeda (albeit from different points in
time):
“They hate our freedoms — our freedom of religion, our freedom of speech,
our freedom to vote and assemble and disagree with each other.” –George W. Bush, Address to a Joint
Session of Congress and the American People, September 20, 2001
“These (Taliban) gentlemen are the moral equivalents of America’s Founding
Fathers.” —Ronald Wilson Reagan in 1985 while
introducing the Mujahideen leaders to media on the White House lawn.
The answer to the contradiction is learning to embrace the deception as truth,
whenever the State says to do so, just as Winston Smith finally “learns” in1984– when he is compelled to find
that2+2=5. His torturer,O’Brien, tells him ‘You are a slow learner, Winston.’
‘How can I help it?’ [Winston] blubbered. ‘How can I help seeing
what is in front of my eyes? Two and two are four.’
‘Sometimes, Winston. Sometimes they are five. Sometimes they are
three. Sometimes they are all of them at once. You must try harder. It is not easy to become
sane.’
Karl Rove, a key architect of the Bush Administration, known glowingly as “Bush’s
Brain”, chastised reporters in 2002 who tried to appeal to the “reality-based community” in the face of a President
who, according toRon Suskind of the NY Times expressed to high level
members of Congress, aides and the like that he didn’t need the facts:
The aide [Rove] said that guys like me were ”in what we call the
reality-based community,” which he defined as people who ”believe that solutions emerge from your judicious
study of discernible reality.” I nodded and murmured something about enlightenment principles and empiricism.
[Rove] cut me off. ”That’s not the way the world really works anymore,” he continued.
”We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own
reality. And while you’re studying that reality — judiciously, as
you will — we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that’s how things will
sort out.We’re history’s actors . . . and you, all of you,
will be left to just study what we do.”
Unbeknownst to the media at that time, Rove was operating on behalf of a
government that was not only arrogant, but had taken a page directly out ofGeorge Orwell’s1984. America’s enemy Osama bin Laden and
his al Qaeda were remarkably like Emmanuel Goldstein, arch-villain of Oceania in1984. Goldstein [or bin Laden] was
“commander of a vast shadowy
army, an underground network of conspirators dedicated to the
overthrow of the State.” An enemy that couldn’t be found, killed or
slowed from influencing new conspirators at every turn. “Somewhere
or other,” Orwell wrote, “he was still alive and hatching his conspiracies.”
“Goldstein was delivering his usual venomous attack upon the doctrines of
the Party —an attack so exaggerated and perverse that a
child should have been able to see through it, and yet just
plausible enough to fill one with an alarmed feeling that other people, less level-headed than oneself, might
be taken in by it…Goldstein produced fear and anger
automatically. He was an object of hatred more constant than
either Eurasia or Eastasia, sincewhen Oceania was at war
with one of these Powers it was generally at peace with the other. But what was strange was that although Goldstein was hated and despised by
everybody…his influence never seemed to grow
less.”
In1984, it was rumored that Goldstein, whereabouts
unknown, might even be taking refuge somewhere within their own superstate itself; consequently,
“a day never passed when spies and saboteurs acting under his
directions were notunmasked by the Thought
Police.” In contemporary America, the Department of
Homeland Security now takes that possibilityas its
directive, screening and searching ordinary people everywhere in
search of shadowy al Qaeda or “homegrown terrorists.” Just as in
1984,children were trained to be spies to rat out
suspicious adults.
Behind the hoax contrived to control party members and maintain power, Winston’s
torturer and member of the inner-party, O’Brien, confessed that he had personally taken part in writing
Goldstein’s outlawed book– a lie to serve the State. It was necessary for the controlling party to create a
living myth that portrayed Goldstein as a classic, evasive “external enemy“. The utility of the
external enemy has been noted by many, including theClub of Rome, who wrote in 1991 that “Humans only
truly unite when faced with a powerful external enemy…At this time a new enemy must be found, one either real
or invented for the purpose.” Henry Kissinger likewise quipped at Bilderberg in 1991 that the United Nations
might seize upon an “outside threat
from beyond” to unite the peoples of the world.
Thus, the steady diet of propaganda, including
thetwo-minutes hate that daily featured new installments of Goldstein’s crimes and heresies.
In1984, Goldstein
was:

correctly suspected that al Qaeda video logos matched the signature
of the CIA-linked Intel Center, revealing an unholy connection at the source of the video-taped threats. Despite
the fact that bin Laden hadreportedly died and had

nearly-omnipotent villain in Bush Administration communiques. His survival as the external enemy, like

they were Freedom Fighters, public heroes heralding the possibility for democracy to spread overseas in resistance
to Communism. Reagan evendedicated the launch of the space shuttle Columbia to the Afghans, in the name of the ‘highest aspirations of freedom.’ In 1985, Ronald Reagan
said the men in the Taliban’s ranks were “the moral equivalents of America’s Founding Fathers.”
These men were supported openly for a decade as the Soviets met ‘their Vietnam’ in Afghanistan.
Osama bin Laden ran MAK
(Maktab al-Khidamat), an organizationcreated by Pakistan’s ISI at the behest of the CIA.
It funneled money, weapons, and internationallyrecruited fighters into the war created in part
by Jimmy Carter’s National Security Adviser,Zbigniew
Brzezinski. Osama was closely tied to the Afghan warlord and ISI
stooge Gulbuddin Hekmatyar who ran drugs for the CIA. In the 1980s, emissaries from the United
Statesmet with Osama. TheCIA paid Osama to train the militant group Abu
Sayyaf and others at hisCIA-built camps in Afghanistan. In New York, Osama’s
MAK operated the CIA-connectedal-Kifah Refugee Center that was involved in
the 1993 WTC bombing. The U.S. government would later call the al-Kifah charity the “precursor organization to
al-Qaeda.”
With Serbia / former
Yugoslavia still fresh in the public mind but the Pentagon-al Qaeda connection largely in the shadows,
theUSS Cole was bombed in October 2000 in a Yemeni
port. The act of terror against the United States would be blamed on Osama bin Laden,
rogue heir to the wealthy family known for their business with big
Western players (like the Carlyle Group, etc.).
While rallying the public behind a war in Afghanistan, and soon in Iraq as well,
the Bush Administration clandestinely letmembers of the bin Laden family
quietly fly out of the United States, even while all other flights were
grounded. It would be revealed in articles about the “Airlift of
Evil,” that U.S. forces also covertly exported Taliban forces from
Afghanistan to Pakistan; meanwhile, U.S. soldiers where geared up to search in caves and rugged terrain for a
shadowy enemy in the “graveyard of empires“; as of 2011,
thedeadline for leaving Afghanistan continues to roll back.
Nearly every major terror plot uncovered domestically
has, in fact, turned out to be a contrivance by the FBI where it sets-up a sting and encourages its patsies to
carry out an attack. The “close calls” on American soil since 9/11 have largely been connected
toAnwar al-Awlaki, who it was revealed, dined with Pentagon
brass in the months after 9/11. The Underwear Bomber who tried
to blow-up a Detroit-bound plane wasgiven VISA clearance by the State Dept. despite being on the watchlist;
witnesses Kurt & Lori Haskell watched Abdulmutallab being helped
on the plane by a “sharp-dressed man” who was most likely an intelligence agent. They also witnessed other
suspect/patsies who were never mentioned in the mainstream media. The key questions their verified account raises
may never be addressed, as the accused Abdulmutallab is attempting to represent himself in court. Hoaxes and
inconsistencies have been raised around the cases of theFoot Hood shooter, the Times Square bomber and many,
many others. Even
Geraldo Rivera of Fox News has noted that the FBI’s pattern of sting
operations are ‘bogus’.
In 2011, George Orwell’s “War is Peace” mantra is upgraded once again, as the
Nobel Peace Prize winner President Obama expands war into Libya under the Orwellian-guise of a “humanitarian
crisis,” imposing a no-fly zone (which immediately gave way to full scale bombings and then ground forces).
Americans, Westerners and the world at-large must scratch their heads once again as wars in Iraq and Afghanistan
not only continue, but the West finds an unlikely ally against Col. Gaddafi in rebels made up of al Qaeda forces.
The Lie has not stopped, as Western intelligence continues to wield one of its most powerful client-weapons– the al
Qaeda hoax, invariably friend or foe, as the situation demands. In classic doublethink, the same week the public
learns its anti-Gaddafi allies include al Qaeda, over-the-top, grandiose threats are made by mail claiming
that
al Qaeda has some 160 nuclear bombs buried at strategic locations across the United
States; if there’s any truth at all to the claim, you can be
certain the nuclear material was delivered via Western intelligence.

The Al-Qaeda flag has been
flying high over Libya and the governments of the western world that helped remove Gaddafi from power don’t seem to
mind at all. The flag, which contains the phrase “there is no God but Allah” with a full moon underneath, has been
photographed flying beside the new national flag of Libya at the courthouse in Benghazi.
The courthouse in Benghazi is where the
“rebels” established their provisional government, and it is where the “media center” for communication
with foreign journalists was located during the fight against Gaddafi. So it isn’t as if the al-Qaeda flag
has
been flying over some insignificant building. But this should be no surprise. It
has been known all along that al-Qaeda was very heavily represented in the army of “the rebels” and among the
leadership of “the rebels”. Now, thanks to Obama, they have taken over Libya and they intend to impose a brutal
form of Sharia law on the entire Libyan population.

this in the U.S. media? The silence has been deafening.
I guess
it would be hard to explain to the American people why they should be sacrificing their sons and daughters to fight

Sadly, the flag of al-Qaeda
is not just being flown at the Benghazi courthouse. According to eyewitnesses, it is now being displayed all over
Benghazi. The following is an accountfrom an eyewitness that has seen the flag flying over the Benghazi courthouse for himself….
It was here at the courthouse in Benghazi where the first spark of the
Libyan revolution ignited. It’s the symbolic seat of the revolution; post-Gaddafi Libya’s equivalent of Egypt’s
Tahrir Square. And it was here, in the tumultuous months of civil war, that the ragtag rebel forces established
their provisional government and primitive, yet effective, media center from which to tell foreign journalists
about their “fight for freedom.”
But according to multiple eyewitnesses—myself included—one can now see
both the Libyan rebel flag and the flag of al Qaeda fluttering atop Benghazi’s courthouse.
According to one Benghazi resident, Islamists driving brand-new SUVs and
waving the black al Qaeda flag drive the city’s streets at night shouting, “Islamiya, Islamiya! No East, nor
West,” a reference to previous worries that the country would be bifurcated between Gaddafi opponents in the
east and the pro-Gaddafi elements in the west.
So what in the world are we supposed to think about all this?
We were told that we had to invade Afghanistan because they were harboring
“al-Qaeda” leaders.
We were told that it was necessary for us to stay in Iraq for so long so that
“al-Qaeda” would not take over.
But now we have helped al-Qaeda take over Libya.
It isn’t as if the governments of the western world did not know what was going on
in Libya.
According tothe Telegraph, the leader
of the Libyan rebels was very open about the fact that his “troops” included significant numbers of al-Qaeda
fighters that were firing bullets at U.S. soldiers in Iraq….
Abdel-Hakim al-Hasidi, the Libyan rebel leader, has said jihadists who
fought against allied troops in Iraq are on the front lines of the battle against Muammar Gaddafi’s
regime.
According to a recent article by Kurt Nimmofor Infowars.com,
al-Qaeda rebels had established an “Islamic emirate” in eastern Libya as early as February….
In February, it was reported that al-Qaeda had set-up
anIslamic emirate in Derna, in eastern Libya, headed by a former prisoner at Guantanamo Bay,
Abdelkarim al-Hasadi.
Now that they have won the war, the “rebels” have announced that they will be
imposing strict Sharia law all over Libya.
The head of the National Transitional Council in Libya, Moustafa Abdeljalil, has
already made this very clear. Just consider the following statements….
Shouldn’t the people of Libya have a say in all of this?
Sadly, one kind of tyranny has just been replaced with another.
In fact, some elements of Sharia law have already been implemented.
According to a recent articleposted on the Telegraph,
Mustafa Abdul-Jalil has already announced that the law banning polygamy has been repealed because it is not
compliant with Sharia law….
Mr Abdul-Jalil went further, specifically lifting immediately, by decree,
one law from Col. Gaddafi’s era that he said was in conflict with Sharia – that banning
polygamy.
The American people were told that the system of government established by the
Taliban in Afghanistan was so repressive that it needed to be overthrown, but now we are helping essentially the
exact same system of government be set up in Libya.
It makes no sense whatsoever.
Not only that, we have greatly destabilized the region and there will almost
certainly be very bloody internal conflicts within Libya for many years to come.
Gadhafi and the remnants of his regime are thought to have distributed
vast stockpiles of weapons and wealth so anti-revolutionary forces could wage what the despot promised would be
a long-lasting insurgency. Many of those fighters fled to the desert and are staging surprise attacks on
roaming bands of militiamen.
The ongoing battles have sparked widespread speculation that the bloody
conflicts will continue to rage far into the future.
In addition, as The New American notes, as a result of this conflict huge amounts
of very dangerous weapons have fallen into the handsof potential terrorists….
Advanced weaponry including anti-aircraft missiles has also fallen into
the hands of known terrorist organizations. The deadly stockpiles are turning up all over the region, but it
remains unclear how much firepower has been smuggled out of the country so far.
But does the Obama administration seem alarmed by any of this?
No, they just want us all to praise them for a “job well done” in
Libya.
Hopefully the American people will see right through this nonsense.

Al-Qaeda terror mastermind Anwar Al-Awlaki, the man who helped plot
the aborted Christmas Day bombing, the Fort Hood shooting, the Times Square bombing attempt, and who also
preached to the alleged September 11 hijackers, dined at the Pentagon just months after 9/11 documents
obtained by Fox News show.
American-born cleric Awlaki's role as a key figure in almost every recent terror plot targeting the United States
and Canada, coupled with his visit to the Pentagon, only confirms our long stated position that Awlaki is a chief
terrorist patsy-handler for the CIA -- he is the federal government's premier false flag agent.
"Documents exclusively obtained by Fox News, including an FBI interview conducted after the Fort Hood shooting in
November 2009, state that Awlaki was taken to the Pentagon as part of the military's outreach to the Muslim
community in the immediate aftermath of the attacks," states the report.
Awlaki was vetted before he was invited to attend a luncheon at the Pentagon in the secretary of the Army's Office
of Government Counsel. His appearance at the meeting was deliberately engineered despite Awlaki's ties to three of
the alleged 9/11 hijackers -- Nawaf al-Hazmi, Khalid al-Mihdhar and Hani Hanjour -- who were identified as the
suicide pilots that slammed Flight 77 into the Pentagon.
Following the Fort Hood shooting it was also revealed that shooter Major Nidal Malik Hasan had been in contact with
Awlaki before the rampage. Awlaki preached to both Hasan and the 9/11 hijackers at the Dar al-Hijrah mosque in
Falls Church, Virginia in 2001.
Awlaki also met with Christmas Day underwear bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab and acted as "the middle-man between
the young Nigerian and the bombmaker." As we have thoroughly documented, the Delta Flight 253 incident was staged
from start to finish. The US State Department allowed Abdulmutallab to board the plane, aided by a well-dressed
Indian man, despite the fact that he was on a terror watch list and had no passport.
The Christmas Day incident was a boon for companies linked with the military-industrial complex, as it greased the
skids for the global introduction of naked body scanners in airports.
Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad was also reported to have been directed by Awlaki before his failed attack on
May 1st
"The Pentagon has offered no explanation of how a man, now on the CIA kills or capture list, ended up at a special
lunch for Muslim outreach," states the Fox News report.
The explanation is quite simple -- Awlaki is the CIA's chief patsy handler for planning and staging false flag
terror attacks through the dupes that he radicalizes.
It remains
to be seen how many Americans will keep buying the proven lies from their government (note the links
below). Time will soon tell if the people of this nation have the good sense to face that they are
being lied to, or succumb to government propaganda and
demoralization.

The staging of the Obama speech photo is
embarrassing, but the staging of the situation room photos, which were heavily promoted by the establishment
media, falsely presented as evidence that Obama, Biden and Clinton saw the assassination of Osama live, and

A newly released document obtained via a Freedom of Information Act request confirms
that the State Department ordered the Department of Homeland Security to spare members of the Muslim Brotherhood
traveling to the US in 2012 a TSA pat down or any kind of secondary screening.
The one page document (PDF), obtained by the Investigative Project on Terrorism, shows
that members of a Muslim Brotherhood delegation traveling through Minneapolis Airport, New York’s John F. Kennedy
Airport and Dulles Airport were handed expedited entry known as “port courtesy,” which is normally reserved for
high ranking government officials and dignitaries. At the time, the Muslim Brotherhood’s candidate Mohamed Morsi,
later deposed, had not been elected president.
Bin Laden was a strawman-villain concocted by the Western
intelligence apparatus to take the blame for the orchestrated terror that is scripted and carried out by the

Antony C. Sutton — Feb. 14,
1925 - June 17, 2002 Antony Sutton has been persecuted but never prosecuted for his research and subsequent
publishing of his findings. His mainstream career was shattered by his devotion towards uncovering the truth.
In 1968, his Western Technology and Soviet Economic Development was published by The Hoover Institute at
Stanford University. Sutton showed how the Soviet state's technological and manufacturing base, which was then
engaged in supplying the North Vietnamese the armaments and supplies to kill and wound American soldiers, was
built by US firms and mostly paid for by the US taxpayers. From their largest steel and iron plant, to
automobile manufacturing equipment, to precision ball-bearings and computers, basically the majority of the

Professor Richard Pipes of Harvard said in his book,
Survival Is Not Enough: Soviet Realities and America's Future (Simon & Schuster;1984): "In his three-volume
detailed account of Soviet Purchases of Western Equipment and Technology . . . [Antony] Sutton comes to
conclusions that are uncomfortable for many businessmen and economists. For this reason his work tends to be
either dismissed out of hand as 'extreme' or, more often, simply ignored."
The report was too much and Sutton's career as a
well-paid member of the academic establishment was under attack and he was told that he "would not

had the US built-up it's enemy? Why did the US build-up the Soviet Union, while we also transferred technology
to Hitler's Germany? Why does Washington want to conceal these facts?"

someone sent Antony a membership list of Skull and Bones and "a picture jumped out". And what a picture! A

Introduction
One of the main objectives of war propaganda is to “fabricate
an enemy”. The “outside enemy” personified by Osama bin Laden is “threatening America”.
Pre-emptive war directed against “Islamic terrorists” is required to defend the Homeland. Realities
are turned upside down. America is under attack.
In the wake of 9/11, the creation of this “outside enemy” has served to obfuscate the real economic
and strategic objectives behind the war in the Middle East and Central Asia. Waged on the grounds of
self-defense, the pre-emptive war is upheld as a “just war” with a humanitarian mandate.
As anti-war sentiment grows and the political legitimacy the Bush Administration falters, doubts
regarding the existence of this illusive “outside enemy” must be dispelled.
Counter-terrorism and war propaganda are intertwined. The propaganda apparatus feeds disinformation
into the news chain. The terror warnings must appear to be “genuine”. The objective is to present the terror
groups as “enemies of America.”
Ironically, Al Qaeda –the “outside enemy of America” as well as the alleged architect of the 9/11
attacks– is a creation of the CIA.
From the outset of the Soviet-Afghan war in the early 1980s, the US intelligence apparatus has
supported the formation of the “Islamic brigades”. Propaganda purports to erase the history of Al Qaeda, drown
the truth and “kill the evidence” on how this “outside enemy” was fabricated and transformed into “Enemy Number

organizations. And at the same time, it creates its own terrorist warnings concerning the terrorist
organizations which it has itself created. Meanwhile, a cohesive multibillion dollar counterterrorism program
“to go after” these terrorist organizations has been put in place.
Portrayed in stylized fashion by the Western media, Osama bin Laden, supported by his various
henchmen, constitutes America’s post-Cold war bogeyman, who “threatens Western democracy”. The alleged threat of
“Islamic terrorists”, permeates the entire US national security doctrine. Its purpose is to justify wars of
aggression in the Middle East, while establishing within America, the contours of the Homeland Security
State.
Historical Background
What are the historical origins of Al Qaeda? Who is Osama bin Laden?
The alleged mastermind behind the 9/11 terrorists attacks, Saudi-born Osama bin Laden, was
recruited during the Soviet-Afghan war, “ironically under the auspices of the CIA, to fight Soviet
invaders”.(Hugh Davies, “`Informers’ point the finger at bin Laden; Washington on alert for suicide bombers.”
The Daily Telegraph, London, 24 August 1998).
In 1979 the largest covert operation in the history of the CIA was launched in Afghanistan:
“With the active encouragement of the CIA and Pakistan’s ISI, who wanted to turn the Afghan
Jihad into a global war waged by all Muslim states against the Soviet Union, some 35,000 Muslim radicals from
40 Islamic countries joined Afghanistan’s fight between 1982 and 1992. Tens of thousands more came to study in
Pakistani madrasahs. Eventually, more than 100,000 foreign Muslim radicals were directly influenced by the
Afghan jihad.” (Ahmed Rashid, “The Taliban: Exporting Extremism”, Foreign
Affairs, November-December 1999).
This project of the US intelligence apparatus was conducted with the active support of Pakistan’s
Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), which was entrusted in channelling covert military aid to the Islamic
brigades and financing, in liason with the CIA, the madrassahs and Mujahideen training camps.
U.S. government support to the Mujahideen was presented to world public opinion as a “necessary
response” to the 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in support of the pro-Communist government of Babrak
Kamal.
The
CIA’s military-intelligence operation in Afghanistan, which consisted in creating the “Islamic brigades”, was
launched prior rather than in response to the entry of Soviet troops into Afghanistan. In fact, Washington’s
intent was to deliberately trigger a civil war, which has lasted for more than 25 years. (photo: CIA and ISI

The CIA’s role in laying the foundations of Al Qaeda is confirmed in an 1998 interview with
Zbigniew Brzezinski, who at the time was National Security Adviser to President Jimmy Carter:
Brzezinski: According to the official version of history, CIA aid to the Mujahideen began
during 1980, that is to say, after the Soviet army invaded Afghanistan, [on] 24 December 1979. But the reality,
secretly guarded until now, is completely otherwise. Indeed, it was July 3, 1979, that President Carter signed
the first directive for secret aid to the opponents of the pro-Soviet regime in Kabul. And that very
day, I wrote a note to the President in which I explained to him that in my opinion, this aid was going to
induce a Soviet military intervention.
Question: Despite this risk, you were an advocate of this covert action. But perhaps you
yourself desired this Soviet entry into war and looked to provoke it?
Brzezinski: It isn’t quite that. We didn’t push the Russians to intervene, but we knowingly
increased the probability that they would.
Question:When the Soviets justified their intervention by asserting that they intended to fight
against a secret involvement of the United States in Afghanistan, people didn’t believe them. However, there
was a basis of truth. You don’t regret anything today?
Brzezinski: Regret what? That secret operation was an excellent idea. It had the effect of
drawing the Russians into the Afghan trap and you want me to regret it? The day that the Soviets officially
crossed the border, I wrote to President Carter. We now have the opportunity of giving to the USSR its
Vietnam War. Indeed, for almost 10 years, Moscow had to carry on a war unsupportable by the government, a
conflict that brought about the demoralization and finally the breakup of the Soviet empire.
Question: And neither do you regret having supported the Islamic
fundamentalism, having given arms and advice to future terrorists?
Brzezinski: What is most important to the history of the world? The Taliban or the collapse
of the Soviet empire? Some stirred-up Moslems or the liberation of Central Europe and the end of the Cold

Consistent with Brzezinski’s account, a “Militant Islamic Network” was created by the CIA.
The “Islamic Jihad” (or holy war against the Soviets) became an integral part of the CIA’s
intelligence ploy. It was supported by the United States and Saudi Arabia, with a significant part of the
funding generated from the Golden Crescent drug trade:
“In March 1985, President Reagan signed National Security Decision Directive 166 … [which]
authorize[d] stepped-up covert military aid to the Mujahideen, and it made clear that the secret Afghan war had
a new goal: to defeat Soviet troops in Afghanistan through covert action and encourage a Soviet withdrawal. The
new covert U.S. assistance began with a dramatic increase in arms supplies — a steady rise to 65,000 tons
annually by 1987 … as well as a “ceaseless stream” of CIA and Pentagon specialists who travelled to the secret
headquarters of Pakistan’s ISI on the main road near Rawalpindi, Pakistan. There, the CIA specialists met with
Pakistani intelligence officers to help plan operations for the Afghan rebels.”(Steve Coll, The Washington

Referred to as “Freedom Fighters”, president Reagan meets Afghan Mujahideen leaders at the White
House
The Central Intelligence Agency using Pakistan’s ISI as a go-between played a key role in training
the Mujahideen. In turn, the CIA-sponsored guerrilla training was integrated with the teachings of Islam. The
madrasahs were set up by Wahabi fundamentalists financed out of Saudi Arabia:
“[I]t was the government of the United States who supported Pakistani dictator General Zia-ul
Haq in creating thousands of religious schools, from which the germs of the Taliban emerged.”(Revolutionary

Predominant themes were that Islam was a complete socio-political ideology, that holy Islam was
being violated by the atheistic Soviet troops, and that the Islamic people of Afghanistan should reassert their
independence by overthrowing the leftist Afghan regime propped up by Moscow. (Dilip Hiro, Fallout from the

Pakistan’s ISI Used as a “Go-Between”
CIA covert support to the “Islamic Jihad” operated indirectly through the Pakistani ISI — i.e. the
CIA did not channel its support directly to the Mujahideen. For these covert operations to be “successful”,
Washington was careful not to reveal the ultimate objective of the “Jihad”, which consisted not only in
destabilising the secular (pro-Soviet) government in Afghanistan, but also destroying the Soviet Union.
In the words of the CIA’s Milton Beardman, “We didn’t train Arabs.” Yet, according to Abdel Monam
Saidali, of the Al-aram Centre for Strategic Studies in Cairo, bin Laden and the “Afghan Arabs” had been
imparted “with very sophisticated types of training that was allowed to them by the CIA”. (National Public
Radio, Weekend Sunday (NPR) with Eric Weiner and Ted Clark, 16 August 1998).
The CIA’s Beardman confirmed, in this regard, that Osama bin Laden was not aware of the role he was
playing on behalf of Washington. According to bin Laden (as quoted by Beardman): “Neither I, nor my brothers,
saw evidence of American help.” (National Public Radio, Weekend Sunday (NPR) with Eric Weiner and Ted Clark,
transcript, 16 August 1998).
Motivated by nationalism and religious fervour, the Islamic warriors were unaware that they were
fighting the Soviet Army on behalf of Uncle Sam. While there were contacts at the upper levels of the
intelligence hierarchy, Islamic rebel leaders in the war theatre had no contacts with Washington or the CIA.
With CIA backing and the funnelling of massive amounts of U.S. military aid, the Pakistani ISI had
developed into a “parallel structure wielding enormous power over all aspects of government”. (Dipankar
Banerjee, “Possible Connection of ISI With Drug Industry”, India Abroad, 2 December 1994). The ISI had a staff
composed of military and intelligence officers, bureaucrats, undercover agents and informers, estimated at
150,000. (Ibid).
Meanwhile, CIA operations had also reinforced the Pakistani military regime led by General Zia Ul
Haq:
“Relations between the CIA and the ISI had grown increasingly warm following [General] Zia’s
ouster of Bhutto and the advent of the military regime. … During most of the Afghan war, Pakistan was more
aggressively anti-Soviet than even the United States. Soon after the Soviet military invaded Afghanistan in
1980, Zia [ul Haq] sent his ISI chief to destabilize the Soviet Central Asian states. The CIA only agreed to
this plan in October 1984.
The CIA was more cautious than the Pakistanis. Both Pakistan and the United States took the
line of deception on Afghanistan with a public posture of negotiating a settlement, while privately agreeing

The CIA sponsored Narcotics Trade
The history of the drug trade in Central Asia is intimately related to the CIA’s covert operations.
Prior to the Soviet-Afghan war, opium production in Afghanistan and Pakistan was directed to small regional
markets. There was no local production of heroin. (Alfred McCoy, Drug Fallout: the CIA’s Forty Year Complicity
in the Narcotics Trade. The Progressive, 1 August 1997).
Researcher Alfred McCoy’s study confirms that within two years of the onslaught of the CIA
operation in Afghanistan, “the Pakistan-Afghanistan borderlands became the world’s top heroin producer,
supplying 60 per cent of U.S. demand.” (Ibid)
“CIA assets again controlled this heroin trade. As the Mujahideen guerrillas seized territory
inside Afghanistan, they ordered peasants to plant opium as a revolutionary tax. Across the border in Pakistan,
Afghan leaders and local syndicates under the protection of Pakistan Intelligence operated hundreds of heroin
laboratories. During this decade of wide-open drug-dealing, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency in Islamabad
failed to instigate major seizures or arrests. … (Ibid)
Afghanistan is a
strategic hub in Central Asia, bordering on China’s Western frontier and on the former Soviet Union. While it
constitutes a land bridge for the oil and gas pipeline corridors linking the Caspian sea basin to the Arabian
sea, it is also strategic for its opium production, which today, according to UN sources, supplies more than
90 % of the World’s heroin market, representing multi-billion dollar revenues for business syndicates,

Protected by the CIA, a new surge in opium production unfolded in the post cold War era. Since the
October 2001 US invasion of Afghanistan, opium production has increased 33 fold since the US led invasion. The
annual proceeds of the Golden Crescent drug trade are estimated between 120 and 194 billion dollars (2006),
representing more than one third of the worldwide annual turnover of the narcotics trade. (Michel Chossudovsky,

From the Soviet-Afghan War to the “War on
Terrorism”
Despite the demise of the Soviet Union, Pakistan’s extensive military-intelligence apparatus (the
ISI) was not dismantled. In the wake of the Cold War, the CIA continued to support the Islamic brigades out of
Pakistan. New undercover initiatives were set in motion in the Middle East, Central Asia, the Balkans and south
East Asia. In the immediate wke of the Cold War, Pakistan’s ISI “served as a catalyst for the disintegration of
the Soviet Union and the emergence of six new Muslim republics in Central Asia”. (International Press Services,
22 August 1995).
Meanwhile, Islamic missionaries of the Wahabi sect from Saudi Arabia had established themselves in
the Muslim republics, as well as within the Russian federation, encroaching upon the institutions of the secular
State. Despite its anti-American ideology, Islamic fundamentalism was largely serving Washington’s strategic
interests in the former Soviet Union, the Balkans and the Middle East.
Following the withdrawal of Soviet troops in 1989, the civil war in Afghanistan continued unabated.
The Taliban were being supported by the Pakistani Deobandis and their political party, the
Jamiat-ul-Ulema-e-Islam (JUI). In 1993, the JUI entered Pakistan’s government coalition of Prime Minister
Benazzir Bhutto. Ties between the JUI, the Army and the ISI were established. In 1996, with the downfall of the
Hezb-I-Islami Hektmatyar government in Kabul, the Taliban not only instated a hardline Islamic government, they
also “handed control of training camps in Afghanistan over to JUI factions …”. (Ahmed Rashid, “The Taliban:

The JUI, with the support of the Saudi Wahabi movement, played a key role in recruiting volunteers
to fight in the Balkans and the former Soviet Union. (Ibid)
Jane Defence Weekly confirms, that “half of Taliban manpower and equipment originate[d] in Pakistan
under the ISI”. In fact, it would appear that following the Soviet withdrawal, both sides in the Afghan civil
war continued to receive US covert support through Pakistan’s ISI. (Tim McGirk, “Kabul Learns to Live with its

Backed by Pakistan’s military intelligence, which in turn was controlled by the CIA, the Taliban
Islamic State largely served US geopolitical interests. No doubt this explains why Washington had closed its
eyes on the reign of terror imposed by the Taliban in 1996, including the blatant derogation of women’s rights,
the closing down of schools for girls, the dismissal of women employees from government offices and the

The Golden Crescent drug trade was also being used to finance and equip the Bosnian Muslim Army
(starting in the early 1990s) and the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). In fact, at the time of the September 11
attacks, CIA-sponsored Mujahideen mercenaries were fighting within the ranks of KLA-NLA terrorists in their
assaults into Macedonia.
The War in Chechnya
In Chechnya, the renegade
autonomous region of the Russian Federation, the main rebel leaders, Shamil Basayev and Al Khattab, were
trained and indoctrinated in CIA-sponsored camps in Afghanistan and Pakistan. According to Yossef Bodansky,
director of the U.S. Congress’ Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare, the war in Chechnya had
been planned during a secret summit of HizbAllah International held in 1996 in Mogadishu, Somalia. (Levon

The summit was attended by none other than Osama bin Laden, as well as high-ranking Iranian and
Pakistani intelligence officers. It’s obvious that the involvement of Pakistan’s ISI in Chechnya “goes far
beyond supplying the Chechens with weapons and expertise: The ISI and its radical Islamic proxies are actually
calling the shots in this war.”(Ibid)
Russia’s main pipeline route transits through Chechnya and Dagestan. Despite Washington’s
condemnation of “Islamic terrorism”, the indirect beneficiaries of the wars in Chechnya are the Anglo-American
oil conglomerates which are vying for complete control over oil resources and pipeline corridors out of the
Caspian Sea basin.
The two main Chechen rebel armies (which at the time were led by the (late) Commander Shamil
Basayev and Emir Khattab), estimated at 35,000 strong, were supported by Pakistan’s ISI, which also played a key
role in organizing and training the rebel army:
“[In 1994] the Pakistani Inter Services Intelligence arranged for Basayev and his trusted
lieutenants to undergo intensive Islamic indoctrination and training in guerrilla warfare in the Khost province
of Afghanistan at Amir Muawia camp, set up in the early 1980s by the CIA and ISI and run by famous Afghani
warlord Gulbuddin Hekmatyar. In July 1994, upon graduating from Amir Muawia, Basayev was transferred to
Markaz-i-Dawar camp in Pakistan to undergo training in advanced guerrilla tactics. In Pakistan, Basayev met the
highest ranking Pakistani military and intelligence officers: Minister of Defence General Aftab Shahban Mirani,
Minister of Interior General Naserullah Babar, and the head of the ISI branch in charge of supporting Islamic
causes, General Javed Ashraf (all now retired). High-level connections soon proved very useful to Basayev.”

Following his training and indoctrination stint, Basayev was assigned to lead the assault against
Russian federal troops in the first Chechen war in 1995. His organization had also developed extensive links to
criminal syndicates in Moscow as well as ties to Albanian organized crime and the KLA. In 1997-1998, according
to Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) “Chechen warlords started buying up real estate in Kosovo … through
several real estate firms registered as a cover in Yugoslavia.” (Vitaly Romanov and Viktor Yadukha, “Chechen

Dismantling Secular Institutions in the former Soviet
Union
The enforcement of Islamic law in the largely secular Muslim societies of the former Soviet Union
has served America’s strategic interests in the region. Previously, a strong secular tradition based on a
rejection of Islamic law prevailed throughout the Central Asian republics and the Caucasus, including Chechnya
and Dagestan (which are part of the Russian Federation).
The 1994-1996 Chechen war, instigated by the main rebel movements against Moscow, has served to
undermine secular state institutions. A parallel system of local government, controlled by the Islamic militia,
was implanted in many localities in Chechnya. In some of the small towns and villages, Islamic Sharia courts
were established under a reign of political terror.
Financial aid from Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States to the rebel armies was conditional upon the
installation of the Sharia courts, despite strong opposition of the civilian population. The Principal Judge and
Ameer of the Sharia courts in Chechnya was Sheikh Abu Umar, who “came to Chechnya in 1995 and joined the ranks
of the Mujahideen there under the leadership of Ibn-ul-Khattab. … He set about teaching Islam with the correct
Aqeedah to the Chechen Mujahideen, many of whom held incorrect and distorted beliefs about Islam.” (Global

Meanwhile, state institutions of the Russian Federation in Chechnya were crumbling under the brunt
of the IMF-sponsored austerity measures imposed under the Presidency of Boris Yeltsin. In contrast, the Sharia
courts, financed and equipped out of Saudi Arabia, were gradually displacing existing State institutions of the
Russian Federation and the Chechnya autonomous region.
The Wahabi movement from Saudi Arabia was not only attempting to overrun civilian State
institutions in Dagestan and Chechnya, it was also seeking to displace the traditional Sufi Muslim leaders. In
fact, the resistance to the Islamic rebels in Dagestan was based on the alliance of the (secular) local
governments with the Sufi sheiks:
“These [Wahabi] groups consist of a very tiny but well-financed and well-armed minority. They
propose with these attacks the creation of terror in the hearts of the masses. … By creating anarchy and
lawlessness, these groups can enforce their own harsh, intolerant brand of Islam. … Such groups do not
represent the common view of Islam, held by the vast majority of Muslims and Islamic scholars, for whom Islam
exemplifies the paragon of civilization and perfected morality. They represent what is nothing less than a
movement to anarchy under an Islamic label. … Their intention is not so much to create an Islamic state, but to

Promoting Secessionist Movements in India
In parallel with its covert operations in the Balkans and the former Soviet Union, Pakistan’s ISI
has provided, since the 1980s, support to several secessionist Islamic insurgencies in India’s Kashmir.
Although officially condemned by Washington, these covert ISI operations were undertaken with the
tacit approval of the U.S. government. Coinciding with the 1989 Geneva Peace Agreement and the Soviet withdrawal
from Afghanistan, the ISI was instrumental in the creation of the militant Jammu and Kashmir Hizbul Mujahideen

Im the immediate wake of 9/11, the December 2001 terrorist attacks on the Indian Parliament — which
contributed to pushing India and Pakistan to the brink of war — were conducted by two Pakistan-based rebel
groups, Lashkar-e-Taiba, (Army of the Pure) and Jaish-e-Muhammad (Army of Mohammed), both of which are covertly

The timely attack on the Indian Parliament, followed by the ethnic riots in Gujarat in early 2002,
were the culmination of a process initiated in the 1980s, financed by drug money and abetted by Pakistan’s
military intelligence.
Needless to say, these ISI-supported terrorist attacks serve the geopolitical interests of the U.S.
The powerful Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), which plays a behind-the-scenes role in the formulation of U.S.
foreign policy, confirms that the Lashkar and Jaish rebel groups are supported by the ISI:
Through its Inter-Service Intelligence Agency (ISI), Pakistan has provided funding, arms,
training facilities, and aid in crossing borders to Lashkar and Jaish. This assistance — an attempt to
replicate in Kashmir the international Islamist brigade’s “holy war” against the Soviet Union in Afghanistan —
helped introduce radical Islam into the long-standing conflict over the fate of Kashmir. …
Have these groups received funding from sources other than the Pakistani government?
Yes. Members of the Pakistani and Kashmiri communities in England send millions of dollars a
year, and Wahabi sympathizers in the Persian Gulf also provide support.
Do Islamist terrorists in Kashmir have ties to Al-Qaeda?
Yes. In 1998, the leader of Harakat, Farooq Kashmiri Khalil, signed Osama bin Laden’s
declaration calling for attacks on Americans, including civilians, and their allies. Bin Laden is also
suspected of funding Jaish, according to U.S. and Indian officials. And Maulana Massoud Azhar, who founded
Jaish, travelled to Afghanistan several times to meet bin Laden.
Where were these Islamist militants trained?
Many were given ideological training in the same madrasahs, or Muslim seminaries, that taught
the Taliban and foreign fighters in Afghanistan. They received military training at camps in Afghanistan or in
villages in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir. Extremist groups have recently opened several new madrasas in Azad
Kashmir.

What the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) fails to acknowledge are the links between the ISI and
the CIA and the fact that the “international Islamic brigades” were a creation of the CIA.
U.S.-Sponsored Insurgencies in
China
Also of significance in understanding America’s “War on Terrorism” is the existence of
ISI-supported Islamic insurgencies on China’s Western border with Afghanistan and Pakistan. In fact, several of
the Islamic movements in the Muslim republics of the former Soviet Union are integrated with the Turkestan and
Uigur movements in China’s Xinjiang-Uigur autonomous region.
These separatist groups — which include the East Turkestan Terrorist Force, the Islamic Reformist
Party, the East Turkestan National Unity Alliance, the Uigur Liberation Organization and the Central Asian Uigur
Jihad Party — have all received support and training from Osama bin Laden’s Al Qaeda. (According to official
Chinese sources quoted in UPI, 20 November 2001.). The declared objective of these Chinese-based Islamic
insurgencies is the “establishment of an Islamic caliphate in the region”. (Defence and Security, May 30,
2001).
The caliphate would integrate Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan (West Turkestan) and the Uigur
autonomous region of China (East Turkestan) into a single political entity.
The “caliphate project” encroaches upon Chinese territorial sovereignty. Supported by various
Wahabi “foundations” from the Gulf States, secessionism on China’s Western frontier is, once again, consistent
with U.S. strategic interests in Central Asia. Meanwhile, a powerful U.S.-based lobby is channelling support to
separatist forces in Tibet.
By tacitly promoting the secession of the Xinjiang-Uigur region (using Pakistan’s ISI as a
“go-between”), Washington is attempting to trigger a broader process of political destabilization and fracturing
of the People’s Republic of China. In addition to these various covert operations, the U.S. has established
military bases in Afghanistan and in several of the former Soviet republics, directly on China’s Western
border.
The militarization of the South China Sea and of the Taiwan Straits is also an integral part of
this strategy.
Yugoslavia
Throughout the 1990s, the Pakistan Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) was used by the CIA as a
go-between — to channel weapons and Mujahideen mercenaries to the Bosnian Muslim Army in the civil war in
Yugoslavia. According to a report of the London based International Media Corporation:
“Reliable sources report that the United States is now [1994] actively participating in the
arming and training of the Muslim forces of Bosnia-Herzegovina in direct contravention of the United Nations
accords. US agencies have been providing weapons made in … China (PRC), North Korea (DPRK) and Iran. The
sources indicated that … Iran, with the knowledge and agreement of the US Government, supplied the Bosnian
forces with a large number of multiple rocket launchers and a large quantity of ammunition. These included
107mm and 122mm rockets from the PRC, and VBR-230 multiple rocket launchers … made in Iran. … It was [also]
reported that 400 members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard (Pasdaran) arrived in Bosnia with a large supply
of arms and ammunition. It was alleged that the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) had full knowledge of the
operation and that the CIA believed that some of the 400 had been detached for future terrorist operations in
Western Europe.
The US Administration has not restricted its involvement to the clandestine contravention of
the UN arms embargo on the region … It [also] committed three high-ranking delegations over the past two years
[prior to 1994] in failed attempts to bring the Yugoslav Government into line with US policy. Yugoslavia is the
only state in the region to have failed to acquiesce to US pressure.” (International Media Corporation, Defence

“From the Horse’s Mouth”
Ironically, the US Administration’s undercover military-intelligence operations in Bosnia, which
consisted in promoting the formation of “Islamic brigades”, have been fully documented by the Republican Party.
A lengthy Congressional report by the Senate Republican Party Committee (RPC) published in 1997, largely
confirms the International Media Corporation report quoted above. The RPC Congressional report accuses the
Clinton administration of having “helped turn Bosnia into a militant Islamic base” leading to the recruitment
through the so-called “Militant Islamic Network,” of thousands of Mujahideen from the Muslim world:
“Perhaps most threatening to the SFOR mission – and more importantly, to the safety of the
American personnel serving in Bosnia – is the unwillingness of the Clinton Administration to come clean
with the Congress and with the American people about its complicity in the delivery of weapons from Iran to the
Muslim government in Sarajevo. That policy, personally approved by Bill Clinton in April 1994 at the
urging of CIA Director-designate (and then-NSC chief) Anthony Lake and the U.S. ambassador to Croatia Peter
Galbraith, has, according to the Los Angeles Times (citing classified intelligence community sources), “played
a central role in the dramatic increase in Iranian influence in Bosnia.

Along with the weapons, Iranian Revolutionary Guards and VEVAK intelligence operatives entered
Bosnia in large numbers, along with thousands of mujahedin (“holy warriors”) from across the Muslim world.Also
engaged in the effort were several other Muslim countries (including Brunei, Malaysia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia,
Sudan, and Turkey) and a number of radical Muslim organizations. For example, the role of one Sudan-based
“humanitarian organization,” called the Third World Relief Agency, has been well documented. The Clinton
Administration’s “hands-on” involvement with the Islamic network’s arms pipeline included inspections of
missiles from Iran by U.S. government officials… the Third World Relief Agency (TWRA), a Sudan-based, phoney
humanitarian organization … has been a major link in the arms pipeline to Bosnia. … TWRA is believed to be
connected with such fixtures of the Islamic terror network as Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman (the convicted mastermind
behind the 1993 World Trade Center bombing) and Osama Bin Laden, a wealthy Saudi émigré believed to

Complicity of the Clinton Administration
In other words, the Republican Party Committee report confirms unequivocally the complicity of the
Clinton Administration with several Islamic fundamentalist organisations including Al Qaeda.
The Republicans wanted at the time to undermine the Clinton Administration. However, at a time when
the entire country had its eyes riveted on the Monica Lewinsky scandal, the Republicans no doubt chose not to
trigger an untimely “Iran-Bosniagate” affair, which might have unduly diverted public attention away from the
Lewinsky scandal. The Republicans wanted to impeach Bill Clinton “for having lied to the American People”
regarding his affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky. On the more substantive “foreign policy lies”
regarding drug running and covert operations in the Balkans, Democrats and Republicans agreed in unison, no
doubt pressured by the Pentagon and the CIA not to “spill the beans”.
From Bosnia to Kosovo
The “Bosnian pattern” described in the 1997 Congressional RPC report was replicated in Kosovo. With
the complicity of NATO and the US State Department, Mujahideen mercenaries from the Middle East and Central Asia
were recruited to fight in the ranks of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) in 1998-99, largely supporting NATO’s
war effort.
Confirmed by British military sources, the task of arming and training of the KLA had been
entrusted in 1998 to the US Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) and Britain’s Secret Intelligence Services MI6,
together with “former and serving members of 22 SAS [Britain's 22nd Special Air Services Regiment], as well as
three British and American private security companies”. (The Scotsman, Edinburgh, 29 August
1999).
The US DIA approached MI6 to arrange a training programme for the KLA, said a senior British
military source. `MI6 then sub-contracted the operation to two British security companies, who in turn
approached a number of former members of the (22 SAS) regiment. Lists were then drawn up of weapons and
equipment needed by the KLA.’ While these covert operations were continuing, serving members of 22 SAS Regiment,
mostly from the unit’s D Squadron, were first deployed in Kosovo before the beginning of the bombing campaign in

While British SAS Special Forces in bases in Northern Albania were training the KLA, military
instructors from Turkey and Afghanistan financed by the “Islamic jihad” were collaborating in training the KLA
in guerilla and diversion tactics.:(The Sunday Times, London, 29 November 1998).
“Bin Laden had visited Albania himself. He was one of several fundamentalist groups that had
sent units to fight in Kosovo, … Bin Laden is believed to have established an operation in Albania in 1994 …
Albanian sources say Sali Berisha, who was then president, had links with some groups that later proved to be
extreme fundamentalists.” (Ibid)
Congressional Testimonies on KLA-Al Qaeda
links
In the mid-1990s, the CIA and Germany’s Secret Service, the BND, joined hands in providing covert
support to the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). In turn, the latter was receiving support from Al Qaeda.
According to Frank Ciluffo of the Globalized Organised Crime Program, in a December 2000 testimony
to the House of Representatives Judicial Committee:
“What was largely hidden from public view was the fact that the KLA raise part of their funds
from the sale of narcotics. Albania and Kosovo lie at the heart of the “Balkan Route” that links the “Golden
Crescent” of Afghanistan and Pakistan to the drug markets of Europe. This route is worth an estimated $400
billion a year and handles 80 percent of heroin destined for Europe.” (U.S. Congress, Testimony of Frank J.
Cilluffo, Deputy Director of the Global Organized Crime Program, to the House Judiciary Committee, Washington
DC, 13 December 2000).
According to Ralf Mutschke of Interpol’s Criminal Intelligence division also in a testimony to the
House Judicial Committee:
“The U.S. State Department listed the KLA as a terrorist organization, indicating that it was
financing its operations with money from the international heroin trade and loans from Islamic countries and
individuals, among them allegedly Usama bin Laden” . Another link to bin Laden is the fact that the brother of
a leader in an Egyptian Jihad organization and also a military commander of Usama bin Laden, was leading an
elite KLA unit during the Kosovo conflict.”(U.S. Congress, Testimony of Ralf Mutschke of Interpol’s Criminal

Madeleine Albright Covets the KLA
These KLA links to
international terrorism and organised crime documented by the US Congress were totally ignored by the Clinton
Administration. In fact, in the months preceding the bombing of Yugoslavia, Secretary of State Madeleine
Albright (image Albright with KLA leader Hashim Thaci, 1999) was busy building a “political legitimacy” for
the KLA. The paramilitary army had –from one day to the next– been elevated to the status of a bona fide
“democratic” force in Kosovo. In turn, Madeleine Albright has forced the pace of international diplomacy: the
KLA had been spearheaded into playing a central role in the failed “peace negotiations” at Rambouiillet in
early 1999.
The Senate and the House tacitly endorse State
Terrorism
While the various Congressional reports confirmed that the US government had been working hand in
glove with Osama bin Laden’s Al Qaeda, this did not prevent the Clinton and later the Bush Administration from
arming and equipping the KLA. The Congressional documents also confirm that members of the Senate and the House
knew the relationship of the Administration to international terrorism. To quote the statement of Rep. John
Kasich of the House Armed Services Committee: “We connected ourselves [in 1998-99] with the KLA, which was the
staging point for bin Laden…” (U.S. Congress, Transcripts of the House Armed Services Committee, Washington, DC,
5 October 1999,)
In the wake of the tragic events of September 11, Republicans and Democrats in unison have given
their full support to the President to “wage war on Osama”.
In 1999, Senator Jo Lieberman had stated authoritatively that “Fighting for the KLA is fighting for
human rights and American values.” In the hours following the October 7 missile attacks on Afghanistan, the same
Jo Lieberman called for punitive air strikes against Iraq: “We’re in a war against terrorism… We can’t stop with
bin Laden and the Taliban.” Yet Senator Jo Lieberman, as member of the Armed Services Committee of the Senate
had access to all the Congressional documents pertaining to “KLA-Osama” links. In making this statement, he was
fully aware that that agencies of the US government as well as NATO were supporting international terrorism.
“The Islamic Militant Network” and NATO join hands in
Macedonia
In the wake of the 1999 war in Yugoslavia, the terrorist activities of the KLA were extended into
Southern Serbia and Macedonia. Meanwhile, the KLA –renamed the Kosovo Protection Corps (KPC)– was elevated to
United Nations status, implying the granting of “legitimate” sources of funding through United Nations as well
as through bilateral channels, including direct US military aid.
And barely two months after the official inauguration of the KPC under UN auspices (September
1999), KPC-KLA commanders – using UN resources and equipment – were already preparing the assaults into
Macedonia, as a logical follow-up to their terrorist activities in Kosovo. According to the Skopje daily
Dnevnik, the KPC had established a “sixth operation zone” in Southern Serbia and Macedonia:
“Sources, who insist on anonymity, claim that the headquarters of the Kosovo protection
brigades [i.e. linked to the UN sponsored KPC] have [March 2000] already been formed in Tetovo, Gostivar and
Skopje. They are being prepared in Debar and Struga [on the border with Albania] as well, and their members
have defined codes.” (Macedonian Information Centre Newsletter, Skopje, 21 March 2000, published by

According to the BBC, “Western special forces were still training the guerrillas” meaning that they
were assisting the KLA in opening up “a sixth operation zone” in Southern Serbia and Macedonia. (BBC, 29 January
2001.)
Among the foreign mercenaries fighting in Macedonia in 2001 in the ranks of self-proclaimed
National Liberation Army (NLA) were Mujahideen from the Middle East and the Central Asian republics of the
former Soviet Union. Also within the KLA’s proxy force in Macedonia were senior US military advisers from a
private mercenary outfit on contract to the Pentagon as well as “soldiers of fortune” from Britain, Holland and
Germany. Some of these Western mercenaries had previously fought with the KLA and the Bosnian Muslim Army.

Extensively documented by the Macedonian press and statements of the Macedonian authorities, the US
government and the “Islamic Militant Network” were working hand in glove in supporting and financing the
self-proclaimed National Liberation Army (NLA), involved in the terrorist attacks in Macedonia. The NLA is a
proxy of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). In turn the KLA and the UN sponsored Kosovo Protection Corps (KPC)
are identical institutions with the same commanders and military personnel. KPC Commanders on UN salaries are
fighting in the NLA together with the Mujahideen.
In a bitter twist, while supported and financed by Osama bin Laden’s Al Qaeda, the KLA-NLA was also
being supported by NATO and the United Nations mission to Kosovo (UNMIK). In fact, the “Islamic Militant
Network” still constitutes an integral part of Washington’s covert military-intelligence operations in Macedonia
and Southern Serbia.
The KLA-NLA terrorists were funded from US military aid, the United Nations peace-keeping budget as
well as by several Islamic organisations including Al Qaeda. Drug money was also used to finance the terrorists
with the complicity of the US government. The recruitment of Mujahideen to fight in the ranks of the NLA in
Macedonia was implemented through various Islamic groups.
US military advisers mingle with Mujahideen within the same paramilitary force, Western mercenaries
from NATO countries fight alongside Mujahideen recruited in the Middle East and Central Asia. And the US media
calls this a “blowback” where so-called “intelligence assets” have gone against their sponsors!
But this did not happen during the Cold war! It happened in Macedonia in 2000-2001. Confirmed by
numerous press reports, eyewitness accounts, photographic evidence as well as official statements by the
Macedonian Prime Minister, who accused the Western military alliance of abetting the terrorists, the US had been
supporting the Islamic brigades barely a few months prior to the 9/11 attacks.
Washington’s Hidden Agenda
U.S. foreign policy is not geared towards curbing the tide of Islamic fundamentalism. In fact, it
is quite the opposite. The significant development of “radical Islam”, in the wake of the Cold War in the former
Soviet Union and the Middle East is consistent with Washington’s hidden agenda. The latter consists in
sustaining rather than combating international terrorism, with a view to destabilizing national societies and
preventing the articulation of genuine secular social movements directed against the American Empire.
Washington continues to support — through CIA covert operations — the development of Islamic
fundamentalism, throughout the Middle East, in the former Soviet Union as well in China and India.
Throughout the developing world, the growth of sectarian, fundamentalist and other such
organizations tends to serve U.S. interests. These various organizations and armed insurgents have been
developed, particularly in countries where state institutions have collapsed under the brunt of the
IMF-sponsored economic reforms.
These fundamentalist organizations contribute by destroying and displacing secular
institutions.
Islamic fundamentalism creates social and ethnic divisions. It undermines the capacity of people to
organize against the American Empire. These organizations or movements, such as the Taliban, often foment
“opposition to Uncle Sam” in a way which does not constitute any real threat to America’s broader geopolitical
and economic interests.
Erasing the History of Al Qaeda
Since September 2001, this history of Al Qaeda has largely been erased. The links of successive US
administrations to the “Islamic terror network” is rarely mentioned.
A major war in the Middle East and Central Asia, supposedly “against international terrorism” was
launched in October 2001 by a government which had been harboring international terrorism as part of its foreign
policy agenda. In other words, the main justification for waging war on Afghanistan and Iraq has been totally
fabricated. The American people have been deliberately and consciously misled by their government.
This decision to mislead the American people was taken on September 11, 2001 barely a few hours
after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre. Without supporting evidence, Osama had already been
tagged as the “prime suspect”. Two days later on Thursday the 13th of September — while the FBI investigation
had barely commenced — President Bush pledged to “lead the world to victory”.
While the CIA tacitly acknowledges that Al Qaeda was an “intelligence asset” during the Cold War,
the relationship is said to “go way back” to a bygone era.
Most post-September 11 news reports tend to consider that these Al Qaeda -CIA links belong to the
“bygone era” of the Soviet-Afghan war. They are invariably viewed as irrelevant to an
understanding of 9/11 and the “Global War on Terrorism”. Yet barely a few months before 9/11, there was evidence
of active collaboration between members of the US military and Al Qaeda operatives in the civil war in
Macedonia.
Lost in the barrage of recent history, the role of the CIA, in supporting and developing
international terrorist organizations during the Cold War and its aftermath, is casually ignored or downplayed
by the Western media.
A blatant example of post-9/11 media distortion is the “blowback” thesis: “Intelligence assets” are
said to “have gone against their sponsors; what we’ve created blows back in our face”.1 In a display of twisted
logic, the U.S. administration and the CIA are portrayed as the ill-fated victims:
The sophisticated methods taught to the Mujahideen, and the thousands of tons of arms supplied to
them by the U.S. — and Britain — are now tormenting the West in the phenomenon known as “blowback”, whereby a
policy strategy rebounds on its own devisers.(The Guardian, London, 15 September 2001)
The U.S. media, nonetheless, concedes that “the Taliban’s coming to power [in 1996] is partly the
outcome of the U.S. support of the Mujahideen — the radical Islamic group — in the 1980s in the war against the
Soviet Union”. 3 But it also readily dismisses its own factual statements and concludes, in chorus, that the CIA
had been tricked by a deceitful Osama. It’s like “a son going against his father”.
The Post 9/11 “War on Terrorism”
The “blowback” thesis is a fabrication.
The CIA never severed its ties to the “Islamic Militant Network”. There is ample evidence that Al
Qaeda remains a US sponsored intelligence asset.
Al Qaeda is presented as the architect of 9/11 without ever mentioning its historical links to the
CIA and Pakistan’s ISI.
While Al Qaeda remains firmly under the control of the US intelligence apparatus, the US
administration has repeatedly intimated that this “outside enemy” will strike again, that a “second 9/11’ will
occur somewhere in America or in the western World:
[there are] “indications that [the] near-term attacks … will either rival or exceed the [9/11]
attacks…
And it’s pretty clear that the nation’s capital and New York city would be on any list…”(Tom Ridge,
Christmas 2003)
“You ask, ‘Is it serious?’ Yes, you bet your life. People don’t do that unless it’s a serious
situation.”(Donald Rumsfeld, Christmas 2003)
“Credible reporting indicates that Al Qaeda is moving forward with its plans to carry out a
large-scale attack in the United States in an effort to disrupt our democratic process… This is sobering
information about those who wish to do us harm… But every day we strengthen the security of our nation.” (George
W. Bush, July 2004)
“The enemy that struck on 9/11 is fractured and weakened, yet still lethal, still determined to hit
us again”(Dick Cheney, July 2006)
“Another [9/11] attack could create both a justification and an opportunity to retaliate against
some known targets”(Pentagon official, quoted in the Washington Post, 23 April 2006)
War Propaganda
A terrorist attack on American soil of the size and nature of September 11, would lead –according
to former US Central Command (USCENTCOM) Commander, General Tommy Franks, who led the invasion of Iraq in 2003 —
to the demise of Constitutional government. In a December 2003 interview, which was barely mentioned in the US
media, General Franks had actually outlined a scenario which would result in the suspension of the Constitution
and the installation of military rule in America:
“[A] terrorist, massive, casualty-producing event [will occur] somewhere in the Western world – it
may be in the United States of America – that causes our population to question our own Constitution and to
begin to militarize our country in order to avoid a repeat of another mass, casualty-producing event. (Cigar
Aficionado, December 2003)
Franks was alluding to a so-called “Pearl Harbor type event” which would be used to galvanize US
public opinion in support of a military government and police state.
The “terrorist massive casualty-producing event” was presented by General Franks as a crucial
political turning point. The resulting crisis, social turmoil and public indignation would facilitate a major
shift in US political, social and institutional structures.
It is important to understand that General Franks was not giving a personal opinion on this issue.
His statement is consistent with the dominant viewpoint both in the Pentagon and the Homeland Security
department as to how events might unfold in the case of a national emergency.
“Massive Casualty Producing Events”
The “massive casualty producing event” is a integral part of military doctrine. The destruction and
loss of life resulting from a terrorist attack serve to create a wave of public indignation. They create
conditions of collective fear and intimidation, which facilitate the derogation of civil liberties and the
introduction of police state measures.
The September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon were used to galvanize
public support for the invasion of Afghanistan, which took place barely four weeks later. Without supporting
evidence, Al Qaeda, which was allegedly supported by the Taliban government, was held responsible for the 911
attacks.
The planning of a major theater war had been ongoing well before 9/11. Whereas the US military was
already in an “advanced state of readiness”, well at in advance of the 9/11 attacks, the decision to go to war
with Afghanistan was taken on the evening of September 11 and was formally announced the following morning.
Meanwhile, NATO invoked Article 5 of the Washington Treaty and declared war on Afghanistan on behalf of all
signatory member states of the Atlantic Alliance. NATO’s declaration of war based on the principle of
“self-defense” was taken within 24 hours of the September 11 attacks.
Article 5 of the Washington Treaty was first invoked on September 12, 2001. America’s European
Allies plus Canada offered their support in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. NATO embraced the US
sponsored “Global War on Terrorism”. Fourteen NATO member states sent troops to Afghanistan. (See NATO Review,

Operation Northwoods
The 9/11 “massive casualty producing event” played a crucial role in the process of military
planning. It provided, in the eyes of public opinion, a pretext to go to war.
The triggering of “war pretext incidents” is part of the Pentagon’s assumptions. In fact it is an
integral part of US military history.
In 1962, the Joint Chiefs of Staff had envisaged a secret plan entitled “Operation Northwoods, to
deliberately trigger civilian casualties to justify the invasion of Cuba:
“We could blow up a U.S. ship in Guantanamo Bay and blame Cuba,” “We could develop a
Communist Cuban terror campaign in the Miami area, in other Florida cities and even in Washington”
“casualty lists in U.S. newspapers would cause a helpful wave of national indignation.” (See the

Terror Warnings and Terror Events
To be “effective” the fear and disinformation campaign cannot solely rely on unsubstantiated
“warnings” of future attacks, it also requires “real” terrorist occurrences or “incidents”, which provide
credibility to the Administration’s war plans. Propaganda endorses the need to implement “emergency measures” as
well as carry out retaliatory military actions.
Both the terror warnings and the terror events have served as a pretext to justify far-reaching
military decisions.
Following the July 2005 London bombings, Vice President Dick Cheney was reported to have instructed
USSTRATCOM to draw up a contingency plan “to be employed in response to another 9/11-type terrorist attack on
the United States”. Implied in the contingency plan is the certainty that Iran would be behind a Second
9/11.
This “contingency plan” used the pretext of a “Second 9/11″, which had not yet happened, to prepare
for a major military operation against Iran, while pressure was also exerted on Tehran in relation to its
(non-existent) nuclear weapons program.
What is diabolical in this decision of the US Vice President is that the justification presented by
Cheney to wage war on Iran rested on Iran’s alleged involvement in a hypothetical terrorist attack on America,
which had not yet occurred:
The plan includes a large-scale air assault on Iran employing both conventional and tactical
nuclear weapons. Within Iran there are more than 450 major strategic targets, including numerous suspected
nuclear-weapons-program development sites. Many of the targets are hardened or are deep underground and could
not be taken out by conventional weapons, hence the nuclear option. As in the case of Iraq, the response is not
conditional on Iran actually being involved in the act of terrorism directed against the United States. Several
senior Air Force officers involved in the planning are reportedly appalled at the implications of what they are
doing—that Iran is being set up for an unprovoked nuclear attack—but no one is prepared to damage his career by

Are we to understand that US, British and Israeli military planners are waiting in limbo for a
Second 9/11, to launch a military operation directed against Syria and Iran?
Cheney’s proposed “contingency plan” did not in the least focus on preventing a Second 9/11. The
Cheney plan was predicated on the presumption that Iran would be behind a Second 9/11 and that punitive bombings
could immediately be activated, prior to the conduct of an investigation, much in the same way as the attacks on
Afghanistan in October 2001, allegedly in retribution for the alleged support of the Taliban government to the
9/11 terrorists.
It is worth noting that one does not plan a war in three weeks: the bombing and invasion of
Afghanistan had been planned well in advance of 9/11. As Michael Keefer points out in an incisive review
article:
“At a deeper level, it implies that “9/11-type terrorist attacks” are recognized in Cheney’s office
and the Pentagon as appropriate means of legitimizing wars of aggression against any country selected for that
treatment by the regime and its corporate propaganda-amplification system…. (Michael Keefer, Petrodollars and

Since 2001, Vice President Cheney has reiterated his warning of a second 9/11 on several
occasions
“The enemy that struck on 9/11 is fractured and weakened, yet still lethal, still determined to
hit us again” (Waterloo Courier, Iowa, 19 July 2006, italics added).
“Justification and Opportunity to Retaliate against some
known targets”
In April 2006, (former) Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld launched a far-reaching military plan
to fight terrorism around the World, with a view to retaliating in the case of a second major terrorist attack
on America.
“Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld has approved the military’s most ambitious plan yet to
fight terrorism around the world and retaliate more rapidly and decisively in the case of another major
terrorist attack on the United States, according to defense officials.
The long-awaited campaign plan for the global war on terrorism, as well as two subordinate
plans also approved within the past month by Rumsfeld, are considered the Pentagon’s highest priority,
according to officials familiar with the three documents who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they
were not authorized to speak about them publicly.
Details of the plans are secret, but in general they envision a significantly expanded role for
the military — and, in particular, a growing force of elite Special Operations troops — in continuous
operations to combat terrorism outside of war zones such as Iraq and Afghanistan. Developed over about three
years by the Special Operations Command (SOCOM) in Tampa, the plans reflect a beefing up of the Pentagon’s
involvement in domains traditionally handled by the Central Intelligence Agency and the State Department.

This plan is predicated on the possibility of a Second 911 and the need to retaliate if and when
the US is attacked:
“A third plan sets out how the military can both disrupt and respond to another major terrorist
strike on the United States. It includes lengthy annexes that offer a menu of options for the military to
retaliate quickly against specific terrorist groups, individuals or state sponsors depending on who is believed
to be behind an attack. Another attack could create both a justification and an opportunity that is lacking
today to retaliate against some known targets, according to current and former defense officials familiar with
the plan.
This plan details “what terrorists or bad guys we would hit if the gloves came off. The gloves
are not off,” said one official, who asked not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the subject.”

The presumption of this military document, is that a Second 911 attack “which is lacking today”
would usefully create both a “justification and an opportunity” to wage war on “some known targets [Iran and
Syria]“.
Realities are twisted upside down. The disinformation campaign has gone into full gear. The British
and US media are increasingly pointing towards “preemptive war” as an act of “self defense” against Al Qaeda and
the State sponsors of terrorism, who are allegedly preparing a Second 911. The underlying objective, through
fear and intimidation, is ultimately to build public acceptance for the next stage of the Middle East “war on
terrorism” which is directed against Syria and Iran.
Concluding Remarks
The threat of an Al Qaeda “Attack on America” is being used profusely by the Bush administration
and its indefectible British ally to galvanize public opinion in support of a global military agenda.
Known and documented, the “Islamic terror network” is a creation of the US intelligence apparatus.
There is firm evidence that several of the terrorist “mass casualty events” which have resulted in civilian
casualties were triggered by the military and/or intelligence services. Similarly, corroborated by evidence,
several of the terror alerts were based on fake intelligence as revealed in the London 2006 foiled “liquid bomb
attack”, where the alleged hijackers had not purchased airline tickets and several did not have passports to
board the aircraft.
The “war on terrorism” is bogus. The 911 narrative as conveyed by the 911 Commission report is
fabricated. The Bush administration is involved in acts of cover-up and complicity at the highest levels of
government.
Revealing the lies behind 911 would serve to undermine the legitimacy of the “war on
terrorism”.
Revealing the lies behind 911 should be part of a consistent antiwar movement.
Without 911, the war criminals in high office do not have a leg to stand on. The entire national
security construct collapses like a deck of cards.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. officials have argued that
atrocities committed by the militant group ISIS are barbaric and that the group is a threat to the homeland, but it’s worth remembering that the horrific violence
perpetrated just across the U.S. border by Mexican drug cartels is equally barbaric and the cartels also
pose a threat to Americans.
This week brought another bloody reminder of the cartel’s brutality. Mexican activist Maria Del Rosario Fuentes Rubio, a physician and citizen journalist
who had taken a prominent stand against Mexican cartels on social media, died with a bullet in her head. And
her killers, in an obvious effort to terrorize others, tweeted her murder.
Yes, as President Barack Obama noted in his Sept. 24 address to the UN General Assembly, ISIS is leaving a trail of rape, beheadings,
dead children and mass graves. The numbers are terrifying: More than 5,500 people have been killed in Iraq
since June, according to the United Nations.
But here are some numbers – also terrifying – from just across the U.S.-Mexico border: In 2013,
Mexican drug cartels murdered more than 16,000 people, andHuman Rights Watch estimates more than 60,000 people were
killed in drug-related violence from 2006 to 2012.
Here’s the part, however, that seems to get overlooked. Mexican drug cartels have
beenspreading out across U.S. cities for years. From Texas, to
Columbus, Ohio, to Raleigh, North Carolina – in 2010, at least 1,000 U.S. cities cited the presence of one
of the four major drug cartels according to aU.S. Justice Department report. According to that
report:
There is no disputing that Mexican cartels are operating in the United States. Drug policy analysts
estimate that about 90 percent of thecocaine, heroin, marijuana and methamphetamine on U.S. streets
came here courtesy of the cartels and their distribution networks in Mexico and along the Southwestern
border. DEA officials say they have documentednumerous cases of cartel activity in Houston, Los Angeles,
Chicago and Atlanta.
Cartel violence isn’t restricted to one side of the border. “Spillover violence” has taken thousands of U.S. lives, according to the FBI. In
other words, the cartel threat – while certainly different from the jihadist-style threat of ISIS – is
nevertheless a threat.
A whole stream of disturbing statistics about the Mexican drug cartels was brought to light in an
opinion piece written by Musa al-Gharbia, a research fellow at the Southwest
Initiative for the Study of Middle East Conflicts. This is not a list for the fainthearted:
Beheadings – Mexico is ranked directly below Iraq on the Reporters Without Borders World Press
Freedom Index. On May 13, 2012, Mexican authorities found at least 49 decapitated and
dismembered bodies along a highway in Nuevo Leon state, between the cities of Monterrey and Reynosa.
Killing children and
women - As if decapitations and hanging dead bodies from bridges wasn’t enough, the
drug cartels have made a practice of targeting women and children to further terrorize communities or prove they are tougher than the next
gang. Children are shot in cars, in their grandmother’s arms or sitting next to their parents.
Mass graves: Mexican
authorities have discovered several mass graves with hundreds of corpses of victims of the drug gangs
in recent years. Some are filled with victims of the drug wars, others with those
murdered for refusing to join the gangs. Most recently, as part of the search for 43 young Mexicans studying
to become teachers, searchers have found six mass graves but so far none of the bodies has been identified
as any of the missing students. Six mass graves, and they still haven’t found the
right mass grave.
As noted, the comparison between ISIS and the cartels
has its limits. Operation Inherent Resolve (the silly name the administration has given America’s military action against
ISIS) and the “War on Drugs” are about different threats. ISIS wants to vanquish all sorts of infidels,
including Americans. The drug cartels are about business – and anyone who gets in their way – including
Americans – is a target.
It comes down to this: If the U.S. is being spurred into action against ISIS because of indignation and a
threat to Americans, then it is worth remembering that a beheading in Mexico is just as horrifying as one in
Iraq or Syria – and a threat against Americans is still a threat whether it is the result of ideology or
criminal drug traffickers.

An independent agency of the United States government responsible for
collecting and coordinating intelligence and counterintelligence activities abroad in the national
interest; headed by the Director of Central Intelligence under the supervision of the President and
National Security Council...There has been considerable criticism of the CIA relating to security
and counterintelligence failures, failures in intelligence analysis, human rights concerns,
external investigations and document releases, influencing public opinion and law enforcement, drug
trafficking, and lying to Congress. In 1987, the former CIA Station Chief in Angola in 1976, John
Stockwell, said the CIA is responsible for tens of thousands of covert actions and destablization
programs since it was created by Congress with the passage of the National Security Act of
1947.At the time, Stockwell estimated that over 6
million people had died in CIA covert actions.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is a governmental agency
belonging to the United StatesDepartment of Justice that serves as both a federal criminal
investigative body and an internal intelligence agency (counterintelligence). Also, it is the
government agency responsible for investigating crimes on Indian reservations in the United States
under the Major Crimes Act. The branch has investigative jurisdiction over violations of more than
200 categories of federal crime. The agency was established in 1908 as the Bureau of Investigation
(BOI). Its name was changed to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in 1935. The agency
headquarters is the J. Edgar Hoover Building, located in Washington, D.C. The agency has fifty-six
field offices located in major cities throughout the United States, and more than 400 resident
agencies in lesser cities and areas across the nation. More than 50 international offices called
"legal attachés" exist in U.S. embassies and consulates general worldwide.
'Federal Bureau of Investigation organizes almost
all terror plots in the US' ...The report reveals that the FBI regularly infiltrates communities
where they suspect terrorist-minded individuals to be engaging with others. Regardless of their
intentions, agents are sent in to converse within the community, find suspects that could
potentially carry out “lone wolf” attacks and then, more or less, encourage them to do so. By
providing weaponry, funds and a plan, FBI-directed agents will encourage otherwise-unwilling
participants to plot out terrorist attacks, only to bust them before any events fully
materialize.
The bottom line answer is that the “war on terror”
is about creating real terrorists. The US government desperately needs real terrorists in order to justify its
expansion of its wars against Muslim countries and to keep the American people sufficiently fearful that they
continue to accept thepolice
state that provides “security from
terrorists,” but not from the government that hasdiscarded civil
liberties.
